Getting started

Hello all,

I finally got to start on my Mary, and as you can see I haven't gotten very far. The bookmark I made first with the linen helped me get a feel for it really nicely. I'm also working on another project so I'm splitting my time a bit, plus I had a visitor this last weekend. I'm hoping to get a bunch done over the holiday weekend.

Everybody's looks so beautiful, and I love the varied creative expressions of each of you through this wonderful SAL.

Updates about Mary & our blog

good morning all----
I just checked the homepage for part 5 & for those of you still waiting for part 4. Here is what I found:
Mary Wigham is Here Again!
Thank you for your patience. Mary Wigham is back for you again - simply click on her picture on the side-bar for downloads. Poor Mary has been a victim of her success - your calls for her went through the roof last week while I was away. Although we have the maximum bandwith plan with our supplier, it just wasn't enough to cope - and sadly rather than simply charge me extra fees for the extra bandwith as some suppliers would do, this supplier just cut off. Rather frustrating for us all, wasn't it! However, I have now set up a special server just for Mary, but it will take me a few days to rebuild and get all our work in progress back up in the gallery. There are some really wonderful images waiting for you to gaze at and I shall tell you as soon as they are ready. Mary Wigham Part 5 will be ready for you in a couple of days.

Plus.........we have hit the 100 member limit. I cannot accept any more people at this time. PLEASE MEMBERS...if you do not want to be a part anymore, would you kindly email me & have me remove your name, so that we can let new members in as they discover this wonderful pattern? Well travelled but no stitching

My Mary is car weary!

I'm just returned home from a couple weekends of travel. Poor Mary travelled through quite a few states and not one stitch was added, how sad. But we are home now and I will be able to once again find a bit of time to stitch.

Thanks for the update on the downloads. I'm enjoying seeing and reading about everyone's progress on their Mary's. I will post pictures once again when I continue.

Beginning

Hi all

Here are the beginnings of my sampler. First I started with one of the motifs that I will make into a ornament. It is on 25 ct over 1 using white and yellow DMC. I wanted to do the whole sampler like this but my LNS didn't have the fabric so I changed my mind. Now it is on pale green 22 ct hardanger fabric over 1 using blues and yellows and ?? I tend to change colors on the fly so this isn't written in stone.

I also will not be doing all cross stitch. I want to learn how to convert cross stitch patterns to other stitches and will be using this sampler to learn. I figure by the time I'm finished, I should have the hang of it.

Finally, a minute to post progress

Hello fellow Mary Wigham stitchers!!!

I finally have a few minutes to post my WIP so far. I have not had much stitching time at all this week, or so far this summer for that matter. I also have lots of other projects that are must do's, so I have to divide my time between them!

I stitched this motif with the called for DMC. As I go, I will decide if I am using the called for color or if I will change it.

Important Need to Know Information

Apparently in my earlier post, I denied you "important need to know Information" (if you've watched those Tremors movies you'll remember that line). There are three comments asking for the same information-I can take a hint :) I am working on 40 ct. linen over 2 threads with one strand and these are the floss colors I've picked so far:

420, 422, 503, 676, 729, 758, 807, 948, 950, 966, 3046, 3808, 3811, 3848, 3849, 3859

I'm not substituting these one for one for the original suggested colors, I'm just gonna wing it and try to keep a good balance.

Update

This is 3 days of stitching. I am stitching on 28ct, 1over1. Takes some doing, as I have to use a magnifier and direct light. I have changed the pattern colors as you can see.

Late Start But Delighted to Join the Party!

I just started my Mary Wigham yesterday morning and was rudely interrupted by the need to work 8 hours (when is my lottery number going to win? Work is seriously interfering with my stitching time). I did put a little time in last night as well. Not much to show and I apologize for the icky cell phone pics. I still need a few more colors of floss but I'm quite pleased with my color selections so far. The stitches I've done are really not that blue...more of a teal.

June 27th Start Date

Well ladies i am ready to start. I plan to put my first stitch in at about 10:00 am this beautiful morning. I decided to go with the conversion special flosses, and to save a little money i am using a beautiful piece of Antique White Belfast 32 ct linen i already had. I will not get to stitch long today as i need to clean and get ready for company. One of my best friends is coming from NY with her dh in his big rig. He had a hull just 40 miles from me, so she is riding with him so we can visit. It may be just a few hours or maybe a day and night. But i do not care as long as i get to see her. It has been 4 years since i have seen anyone from back home in pa. Wish i had a maid to help me clean today i just hate dusting.

Mary Wigham 4th week.

Each day I’m more in love with this chart. I have been personalizing it not just with the colors but also the initials for my family members, the flowers that go in the blue medallions will be substituted by one of my little creatures, I want them to be part this too. I’m following Jaqueline’s Sugestion and I’m doing a little biography to insert in the back of the framing. I’m making a scrapbook with pictures and a little about me, I’m pretty bad doing the last part, so it will be literally a little!!

concerning bandwidth full

The main blog (needleprint.com) had a post earlier this week stating this:
The Mary Wigham Downloads went through the roof on Monday!
The number of downloads on Monday more than doubled from our expectations! So at the moment I am out of bandwith which is not a problem - but I am away from home and don't have the files here to upload to my secondary website. It looks like someone is telling me to stop working on my holiday here for a few days. I can keep posting, but downloads are not possible until I get home in a few days. Thank you for your patience.
I hope this helps those of you trying to get part 4 & are not able to.

My stitching spot.
I started Mary Wigham, but, stopped and frogged it all. Then I went back and recharted some of the designs. Guess, I'm not the only one. I am not making a reproduction persay, but, I am loving the designs. I have changed the fabric to 28ct Jobalan, and some of the colors. I am stitching 1x1, so it is going slow. I have to use a magnifier and direct light. I hope to have enough done to put up a pic by this weekend. Keep stitching, Keep smiling and always remember to ENJOY!

We are now up to 97 members & I have 3 outstanding invitations. I have also received a couple requests that I haven't been able to fill at this time.
The response to this SAL has been amazing. I am wondering how many have joined the group, but actually are not stitching this piece. I hate turning interested people away. If you have signed up but are just 'watching' the progress pieces, would you consider giving your spot to someone?

Mary Wigham

I started Mary Wigham on Saturday. I'm using 32 ct. Belfast natural linen. I am using the suggested DMC threads but have changed only two -- 725 to 3852 and 519 to 932. I wanted to soften the colors a bit. I haven't finished the first motif yet. It's a beautiful sampler. I only have one quaker sampler that I've stitched - Sarah Tatum by the Scarlett Letter. I will post pictures soon!

My Start

Hi All,
Thank you Shari for the invitation. Here is a picture of my progress on Mary Wigham. I am off to a slow start but I hope to finish this piece by the end of summer. I am stitching on 35 count Lambswool and I am using the DMC threads. I may change some of the colors, as some are a little brighter than I usually like. I am so excited to be a part of this SAL.

I'm Shay, in N. Texas I started about the 15th, this is my progress so far. I’m using the listed DMC threads on Zweigart 32 count Flax. This has been a real joy to stitch. I tis my first Quaker Sampler I look forward to many more. I maybe hooked.

Better Late than Never

I have been planning to start Mary Wigham for weeks now. But I have two little ones that keep me very busy, and then there was the fabric to order, and other responsibilities. I'm sure you all know how it goes...

But I'm happy to say that I have finally begun. It took a little mini-vacation to give me the boost I needed. This is where I started stitching my sampler (The Oregon Coast):


And this is the progress I have made:


I am stitching on 35 count Weeks Dye Works Linen-colored linen. I will be mostly using my very favorite shade of blue, DMC 924, but will also be throwing in some WDW Ocean, WDW Deep Sea, some leftover silks in shades of (you guessed it) blue from a Scarlet Letter sampler. I'm sure I'll also use some browns, but I like to wing it a bit when it comes to stitching.

I look forward to watching all of your progress as well! Thanks for letting me join the group.

Part 4 is UP!

Hello fellow stitchers!!!!! I just got home & right away had to check the needleprint blog! Part 4 of Mary is up! Be sure to go get your SAL part!! I am WAY BEHIND on mine. I just don't have enough hours in the day.
We are up to 90 members, with several others pending acceptance of invitations. Some are saying they are not getting the invitations. If you are reading this, please, check your spam folder. A lot of the comments are going in my spam folder, so maybe that is what is happening.

Started!

I am so happy I finely got started! After much too do about fabric and size I received the fabric last Thur June 18. I cut the fabric in two. It was 25 x 55 in. One half went the Mary the other half went to Beatrix Potter. I did a tea dye to the MAry fabric and started to stitch Fri June 19. I have the DMC list floss. But may change a few colors as I stitch.

I did not get a lot done over the weekend, but it is started!

Hello Mary Wigham Stitchers

Good Morning and Hello to all.
I am just joining in on this wonderful sal, so i will have to really buckle down to do some catching up. I was so excited to see this sal and now to be a part of it. I was in total shock to look at and click on to all the flags and to see just how world wide this sal is. It just might qualify for Guiness book of work records ! Well a little about me now. I am Jeanie Burnett from Glenwood Arkansas, i have been stitching for almost 30 years on and off. I am married to my wonderful dh Jeff, we have two furbabies Jake ( mastiff) and Minnie Mae ( chihuahua). I also have two grown sons back home in PA. Matthew is 29 and Michael is 26. Currently i have been stitching on, Ann Grimshaw, Bent Creek-Red Thread, Mary Garry's Sewing Well, Stitching Parlor's - Birds of Killingsworth, as well as 8 name trees for my ornament exchange. So now i have to double my stitching time so i can catch up to you all. A Special Thank you to Shari for heading this sal and i look forward to seeing all your post and picture updates and getting to know you all. Wish me luck i am off to put in the first stitch.

MW Conversion

First Stitches Taken

Hi.

Last night I had taken the first stitches in MW. My thread is from Gloriana in Midnight and the fabric is dyed by NWS. I am really excited about this piece and can not wait to catch up. I will post a picture once a couple of the parts are done.

Weekly Update #3

Hello my stitching friends,

I hope you have had a great week! I love seeing everyone's progress -- especially those of you who are way ahead of me. I get really motivated to work on mine after seeing what beauty is waiting for me on the other end of the stitches! :)

I am still chugging along in the first part! Here is my latest progress picture. More pictures can be seen on my blog:

I have two quilts that I really need to finish for magazines. So, the quilts will take priority in the next couple of weeks. I hope wherever you are, you will have a wonderful weekend -- and hopefully, you will squeeze in some Mary stitches.

Checking In

I wanted to say hello to everyone. I jumped right on the band wagon when I saw Mary Wigham and a notice that it was going to be a SAL. I love the simplicity (a very calming feel to them) of the Quaker Samplers, and this is no exception. I bought the DMC colors, but decided I would use Eterna Silk instead. According to their conversion chart, the silk colors should be similar to DMC. So I am awaiting the silk. Am also waiting to see if my sister wants to join in the fun, but will order the linen next week whether she decides to or not. I can't wait to begin!!

I know what I said...

I said I wouldnt start this until mid July once my family and inlaws have all gone home. My Grandma wanted to go to Michael's today, so I thought...I'll grab come fabric and see if I can find some nice colors for my MW. So, here I sit with my fabric picked out and a bunch of colors to try, and MW being spit out of my printer. I am not sure I'll last until July, let alone the next 10 minutes.

I found a piece of 28ct Jazlyn in Crystal Peach. The floss colors are all different pinks, peaches and tans with a blue, green, purple, dark grey for some parts...maybe. I just sat in front of the DMC display and grabbed colors willy nilly, so I am not sure what will be used and what wont.

The black cat hair at the very top of the picture will be added in during the stitching....the cat hair is always added in whether I want it or not. LOL

My Mary update

It's very slow going, but I am having lots of fun. Sorry for the burr pic (my blackberry doesn't take great pictures...). I am using 32 Count Belfast Linen in Flax, and AVAS for thread. Since white and ecre don't show at all on my fabric, I used pale lavender and smokey mauve instead (see my blog for the specific thread numbers if you are interested).

Hello, Thank you and progress

Hello to all!

Thank you Shari for approving my membership into the SAL. I must also thank Gillian for telling me about the SAL.

I'm brand new at this blogging thing so if I mess up, please tell me.

I started MW last night but only got what you see done.

I'm stitching on 40 ct. Sandstone 1 over 2. My wife and I decided on using Shepherd's Bush colors. Soft muted colors I guess you could say.

I'm headed back to the recliner to get some stitching in before making dinner.

I've enjoyed everyone's progress pictures and all of your decisions on colors and fabrics!

It's about time I said hi!

Hi!
I joined the group early on. It may have been the first day it was up. But I have not started to stitch Mary yet. At first I had a hard time the size of fabric to use and what fabric to use... But I made up my mind and am now waiting for my ordered fabric to get here. I ordered a 32 count Ivory Lugana. I went to JoAnns and picked up the DMC floss as listed. But I may change a color or two as I go, I don't know yet...

I LOVE to see all the beautiful progress so many of you have done so far! I am happy so many of you have gone off with your own color way! It will be great to see all the colors and styles as we go along!

I can't wait to get started myself!!! I hope that fabric gets here soon!

I am enjoying stitching Mary Wigham very much. I am doing it in shades of green from Belle Soie. The only trouble I am having is some of the symbols are printing so light that I am having trouble seeing them. I am sure I will not have all 3 parts stitched by the time the 4th comes out.
Hope everyone is enjoying it as much as I am. I enjoy seeing all the different fabrics and threads that everyone is using. I will try and post sometime in the near future

YEA!!! Here is my first update of the Mary Wigham Sampler. I am enjoying this one very much and it will not turn into a UFO but a WIP until the last installment.

Greeting and Part 3 is up!

Just a quick hi from me. I am Brandy from California. I havent started stitching this yet and I havent even picked out fabric or floss. I just know what I want to be a part of it. I think this project is just amazing. I love looking over all the blogs from all over the world and seeing how this one design ties us all together no matter where or who we are.

I wont even be starting until mid July more than likely. I will be having guests from now until the 4th of July and things are a bit insane around my house. By mid July I'll need some good old fashioned floss fondling!

And for those that havent checked, Part 3 is up and available. There is also a corrected chart for part 2.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone's progress. I just wish I had time to comment on each and every post about how beautiful all the wips are!

Good Monday Morning!

Good morning everyone! I love Monday mornings! It is my favorite time of the week. I know, I am weird!
We are up to 76 members on the blog now & I am sure there are 100's, if not 1000's of other USA gals downloading the pattern. I wanted to remind people that we are only allowed 100 members on the blog, so if you have been sitting on the fence, now is the time to jump down & join in. We have 10 outstanding invitations, so if all of those accept, we will be at 86 members.
Tonight is the release of part 3. Are we ready!?!? I'm not!!! Well, I am ready to see the beauty, but I am WAY BEHIND on my stitching!!! We had a busy weekend!

A Little More Progress

I got a little bit more of the green motif on top stitched. Not a lot of progress, but thought I'd share anyway because this picture shows the colors better than the last one. :)

Hello fellow Mary Wigham stitchers, here's my progress so far. I really thought I could get the first page done in a week, but I was wrong! Just not enough stitching hours in the day.

I'm using 32 count Belfast antique tan and Hand-Dyed Fibers' Premium silk in the new "Be" colors. I love stitching with just one strand when possible. The fabric really isn't blotchy - I took the picture outside and there are bits of sunlight peeking through the trees. The initials in turquoise will probably be frogged in the near future --a little too bright for me. But I am loving the variegated look the of the silk even though choosing colors is way out of my comfort zone!

Computers! who needs them

Greetings ~

Well I have spent most of this day trying to put my photos on the computer.

I have a Kodak Easy Share and dock. One small problem. The camera does not

fit on the dock. But then the cord does not fit the camera. After all that it is OK

cause the cord does not fit on my Mac!

I called Walgreens to see if I can make a CD of my cards from the camera. He

made it sound so easy. I am skeptial, as nothing that was supposed to be so

easy has been.

So I am off to Walgreens to get that started. I have about 1000 photos on the two

cards so it will take sometime to add them all. I also have framed pictures all over

the house that need photographing. Then there is all the WIP's and UFO's for me

to add. The task is dauntless! Pray for me to figure it out.

Fibers and fabric on their way

I just ordered my fiber and fabric for this beautiful piece. I am doing it with an overdyed silk and antiqued linen, then I can start this. I will be doing this over one. Yeah!

I love what I have seen done by everyone - they are all beautiful.

Latest Progress

1st Mary Wigham update

I was going to my LNS today about 2 so I downloaded the two parts and called ahead so she could pull the threads. When I got to the shop I matched the threads she pulled to Gentle Arts Sampler Threads. I also bought a piece of Lambswool size 32 count.

When I got home I started stitching, skipped dinner and did most of the first motif and all of the next one below it. I think the colors are going to turn out nicely and just flow along. Here's hoping!

So I finally have a good start. Tomorrow I will work on it some more and see what I can get done. I also think I will see if I can get my photos online. I have been taking them for a long time but never put them on my computer.

Say a prayer that God is smiling on me and will help.

Asymetry

I noticed asymmetry in a motif in part one. The circled two lines only have 5 stitches, while all other lines have 6. Is this motif supposed to be asymmetric or it is a typo?

My MW part 1 so far

I stitched bits and pieces of the motifs so far to see if the colors I chose would work. I used AVAS 2541 (ecre/cream) instead of white, and I am replacing ecre with a light lavender-ish color (I haven't picked the exact color yet). But 2541 isn't very visible on my fabric (plus the picture's quality is really not helping either!). Not sure what I am going to do....Nonetheless, This is my first quaker sampler, and I am enjoying it very much!

Mary Update

Hi everyone! It's so awesome seeing everyone's progress photos on their versions of the Mary sampler. I have a photo, but it's not very good and my sampler doesn't really look like this now. LOL



After I started stitching the second motif with the recommended DMC 725 (as shown in the photo), I decided that the yellow was brighter than I really wanted it to be. So, I ripped it all out and decided to pick another color instead. That lead me down a path of deciding to stitch my sampler in a combination of DMC and over-dyes. For the over-dyes, I'll be using fibers from WDW, GAST, and Crescent.

I finally have the second motif back to about the spot shown in the photo above. I'm stitching it with GAST Ohio Lemon Pie this time though. I'll try and take an updated photo this weekend.

I've also finally come up with my stitching plan for this piece. If I've counted correctly, there are 45 motifs (some large & some small), 27 sets of initials, and then the M. Wigham personalization. I've set a goal of stitching one motif per week. I plan to divide the initials into batches of 6-7 sets at a time and will occasionally throw in an "initial week" in place of doing a motif. By setting my goals this way, I will still have time to stitch on other projects. It would also mean that I could finish this sampler in about a year's time.

Here is a photo of my Mary Wigham as of this morning.

The itsy bitsy magnifier and light are because we lost electricity and that is what I had to use. Thankfully, the power has been restored.

The photo is not very good because I had to use my phone to take the photo.

I am using 36-count Maritime linen from Lakeside. I have never used overdyed threads on a reproduction before, but decided to give them a try on Mary. I am using a combination of DMC, Crescent Colours, Old Willow, and Sampler Threads. I am trying to keep the colors as close to possible to what Jacqueline charted.

Hello everyone! I joined this SAL last week but just recently had a chance to go through my stash. I find I don't have anything close to it so will have to order. I do have some beautiful fabric but it is in a light blue. I am really tempted to use it. I love it and have wanted to use it for some time. I have also thought about doing my MW in monochromatic colors. Then again I feel like I want to stay as close as possible to the reproduction. Hope I dont end up being the last person in the U.S. to actually join the SAL :-)

I hope to squeeze in a few more stitches this coming week. It's going to be hard since I am a quilt designer for magazines, and I have a few deadlines to meet.

Restarting Tomorrow!

Woohoo!!! I finished my Beneath the Sunlit Sky piece tonight!!!! Now I can start my Mary Wigham over & not feel guilty. Well, I will still feel guilty, but at least I have one finished in my pile. I have NEVER had so many projects in the works. The progress you all are making is great!!!! Keep it up!!! We need to keep encouraging each other along!!!

Wednesday...

Well on Saturday I got my linen (lamb's wool) 32 count. I'm using Sampler Threads, Weeks, Crescent Threads. I started on Tuesday evening, still working on my first motif. The weather here in Utah is very wet and cool! Can't do much yard work so I've been stitching. I will have to take a picture when I get a little more stitched. I like what I have seen so far! But over one is just a little to much for me! Good luck to all as we stitch this project together. Just wished I had more time to stitch...

My start

Hey friends! I'm stitching from my stitching chair in Texas:)

I'm going to take my time and enjoy this. Last year I stitched "A Quaker Christmas" in 3 colors, 32ct. over 2 so when I saw this gorgeous design, I knew I wanted to stitch it in the bright, fun colors it calls for. I'm stitching on Zweigart Lambswool 32ct. over one.
I will be adding initials last, because I'm adding my own family.

Can't wait to see everyone's progress! and thank you Shari for starting this blog for us all to join together:)

Where I'll stitch

Although I'm still dithering around over fabric and thread choices, I thought I'd show you where I intend to stitch my MW sampler. When the weather is nice, I like to sit outside on one of my rockers or lounge chairs. If I'm watching a movie, I like to sit in my bedroom,(light colored loveseat) but if I'm watching TV or sports with my family, I have a chair in the corner of the living room (dark brown chair).
But really, outside is best!

Just a Little Start

Hi All -- I am so pleased to be a part of this SAL, and very excited to work along with other Quaker lovers on this beautiful sampler. I am also grateful to Jacqueline of Needleprint for giving us this wonderful pattern to stitch. I made my contribution for all nine parts of the sampler with one single payment, as I always have problems making Paypal work for me on the first try.

I have selected my fabric -- 40 count New Castle Picture this Plus Legacy. I am doing this as an adaptation, rather than a strict reproduction, using just two colors - light and dark green, and I plan to substitute some family initials for most of the initials that are charted. The greens I selected are Belle Soie Shepherd's Pasture (light green) and Belle Soie Herb Garden (darker green). I am pleased with the combination so far.

I am also working on the Beatrix Potter sampler and already have wall space set aside for both when they are finally completed.

I have just a little bit of the first part of the pattern completed, but will try to post a photo when I have a some more done.

So far I am enjoying Miss Mary as much as Miss Potter. I can't wait to see everyone's progress.

Where I stitch and how far along on part one!

OH MY GOODNESS... I can not believe it is time for part 2... I have a good start on Part 1 but hope to get caught up at some point! I want to be able to show you all my progress and where I was stitching...
I went to a local Starbucks with my Best Friend... She is also a part of this SAL...

This is a pic of the front barista where we bought out coffee's .... WOW... those stitches go fast once that coffee hits your system!!!! :)

You can see in this one... that we were Finished with all our Coffee treats... and time to pack up and go for home.

Of course there was A LOT of talking and A LOT laughter too... but it was an AWESOME time... So Mary is also another fun reason to bring great friends to the local starbucks for a good time! Her legacy lives on in the stitch!

Hello all!

I'm very excited to be participating in my first-ever SAL, which also happens to be the first time that I've stitched on linen instead of Aida. I read several recommendations to do a small project first with learning linen, so I'm making a bookmark with a few motifs from the Ackworth School Pattern Book and I am loving it already. I've cross-stitched a lot in the past, but lost my love of it a few years ago because of some projects that had me changing colors constantly. Sometimes a lot of shading and detail gets just too tedious.

Once I am done with the bookmark I will be starting on the Mary Wigham SAL, so I'll be a little behind some of you. I will be doing it on Wichelt Lambswool Linen, 32 count 2x2, but I'm only using three matching shades of blue to create a bit of a monochrome-ish effect with DMC 930, 931, & 932. Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Even though I already have way, WAY too many WIPs (most of them other Quakers), I can't wait to start Mary Wigham. I was out of town when the first part was posted so I haven't been able to print out part 1 yet, but I did find a 40ct Zweigart French Vanilla Swirl while vacation shopping. I'm planning on using HDF silks, but I'm tweaking some of the colors just a bit so the light colors show up a bit more and the brights aren't quite so bright. It may take me a few more daysso post pictures so I can enjoy vicariously!

Rethinking Things!

I have changed my mind!!! That is a girl's right, right?!?!?!
I have decided that:
A---I want my piece on 32 ct. not 28 ct.
B---I do not want to do this big of project on linen.
I have only stitched on linen 2 or 3 times & never this large of project!!!!
So, I ordered my new fabric today!!!

Hi Everyone,

I started Mary last night. I had been digging around hoping I had a piece of fabric large enough and I found a 32 ct Belfast Linen in a light mocha shade. I forget the actual name of it:-) But I have started and will be doing as much as I can. I love that this is world wide and there are sooooo many of us stitching the same thing.
I'll post pictures later when I get home.

I did stitch for about an hour on Sat. morning on the front porch listening to the birds singing (and a few cars racing by) and it was wonderful. However not enough progress to take another picture.

Help!

I have never stitched such a big piece. I have tried in-hand, using my third hand, and now on a table frame I inherited from my mom. I am not sure what to do with the extra fabric. It is in the way. The frame is cumbersome and hard to turn over. It is also only 20" and my fabric is 22". To say the least I am frustrated. So not much progress for me.

My Start

Hi Everyone! I decided to jump on the bandwagon! I wasn't sure if I was going to stitch this one because I have a few other Quaker's waiting for me, but I just couldn't resist.

The threads are various cotton hand-dyeds and the fabric is 40 ct. Light Examplar by Lakeside Linens. Looking forward to stitching along with you all! :)

My first SAL~~~

I am so excited to be a part of this SAL!~ Looking forward to the insight from other stitchers and creating a beautiful sampler along the way. Need to go kit up everything right now~! I am thinking about monochrome color, but will pull the colors anyway....might just change my mind then!

Ordered my Fabric...

…yesterday while I was at my LNS for the monthly (and now whenever there's a fifth Saturday in the month!! yippee!!) all-day open stitch class. It's pretty much a guarantee I'll be using cotton floss on the PTP "Heritage" in 32-count Lugana, but I haven't decided if it'll be DMC or overdyes (I have a lot of those I could use up!). I'm also probably going to wait until all the segments have been released.

I am so excited to be able to participate in the Mary Wigham SAL.

I couldn't wait to get started so after I downloaded my pattern and made my donation, I went to Hobby Lobby.
I was pretty sure that they had 32 count Lambswool Linen by Wichelt Imports. I struck it lucky and purchased 1/2 yard and got a real good deal with my 25% off coupon.
I want to say that it is the stiffest fabric I have ever stitched on, lol but I have started the first motif and I like the way it looks. I decided to use the DMC floss.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone's progress.

Started Mary tonight

Hi Everyone,

Looking forward to seeing all the progress on Mary in the coming weeks. This is my first SAL so I'm excited to join up on such a great project.

By chance I found fabric before a necessary trip to my LNS and have started to stitch with the DMC colors. I'm off to bed now but will be taking pictures Saturday to post my progress. Tomorrow it is back to my RMR seminar prep so I don't get an "F" in class.

Everybody Loves Mary

...come on, you knew it was only a matter of time :)

I'm Kate and live on the eastern shore of Maryland. I'm 28 and have been stitching for about 8 years now. And this is my first SAL!

Well, it looks like some of you have made terrific progress already - wowie wow wow. Hopefully I'll run over to my stitchin' shop in Ocean City, MD this weekend and pick up some floss and fabric to get started. There is nothing quite like a needlework store with an ocean view, big ups to Salty Yarns! My only hesitation is that I've never started working a project from a corner before. I always start in the middle. But if I wait until the middle chart comes out you all will be so far ahead of me - then what's the point of a SAL?! So I'm bustin' through the comfort zone on this one. Yipes!

What is everyone else's preference? Are you a center or corner starter?

I started mine

On Tuesday I started my cloth, and here is my work up to yesterday ( I haven't stitched today). I'm making mine with HDF thread from my stash.
It's definitely a pleasure to stitch this pattern!!!

Getting off to a good start!

Hello Ladies,

I was excited when my linen came in the mail yesterday! I got the suggested 32-count Permin Lambswool. I am using the suggested threads. The only difference is that I am stitching one over one instead of two over two.


I was able to start on it last night. I was very pleased with the one over one look. Since I have always stitched two over two, I had not expected the motifs to turn out that small, haha.

I am just going to post one picture here - but I will have other pictures posted on my blog tomorrow (6/5/09).

Starting Tomorrow

I think I have my act together and am ready to take it on the road so to speak. I have threads and fabric and have down loaded Part I Now I will have to decide whither to stitch starting in the morning or do the ironing and then stitch. It is a dilemma. NOT! I'll be stitching. LOL

OK Girls... I have the Fabric... it is a 32 Count Belfast Linen - Lt Mocha
I have pulled all of the DMC threads... But would Much rather stitch this in hand dyed fiber - Silks... so I am off next to the silk container to compair them and to see if I have great matches for them! Am I understanding this right that in 32 Count we need to cut a 24 x 24 piece of fabric? or is that the DESIGN size? Someone please help with this one! I have a 2 yard piece of this so I am covered either way... But I sure would like to start this tonight! I am so very excited!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I can't wait to start MW, but my fabric is stored in my guestroom which is currently occupied by my sister. "Occupied" doesn't begin to describe the condition of the room. "Suitcase explosion" isn't even descriptive enough. How about "Massive Luggage Vocanic Eruption". Whatever, I can't get to the drawer with my linen or the closet with my fibers. If I'm lucky I'll be in there on Sunday night putting the project together.

I plan to use either 36 or 40 count of one of my many pieces of hand-dyed vintage-looking linen. And probably a dark green Splendor. Not cast in stone yet though.

So don't get too far ahead of me. Of course, I'm still working on "Grace Mason", so it's not like I have nothing to do! Feel free to check out my progress on GM. http://stitchingandbeading.blogspot.com/

Off and running with Mary

Hi fellow Mary stitchers! I've commented several times already, but haven't created an actual post yet. As a way of introduction, my name is Melissa and I live in southern California. I'm 45 years old, divorced, no children or pets, and work full-time in the aerospace industry.

I know I said I wasn't going to start this piece until I finished the exchange piece I have due on June 15, but I just couldn't resist. I started my version of Mary last night. LOL I'm stitching her on 32-count Legacy linen from Picture This Plus using the recommended DMC fibers.
